Coffee Cake (Yeast-Raised)

Old-style streusel coffee cake

Steps:

1. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.

2. Mix sugar, salt, shortening, and 1 cup hot water (plus dissolved coffee) in a large bowl.

3. Add dissolved yeast; mix.

4. Add 3 1/2 cups flour; mix thoroughly.

5. Cover and let rise 1 hour until doubled.

6. Pour into a greased 9×13 Pyrex pan.

7. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes or until done.
