Chopped Beef on Bun

Slow-baked barbecue chopped beef

- 3 lb lean beef, chopped (no fat)

- 2 tablespoons liquid smoke

- 1 teaspoon Lawry’s seasoning salt

- 3 1/2 cups barbecue sauce (written exactly as 3 1/2 C. — normalized to cups spelling, no change to amount)

- 2 garlic cloves, minced

- 1 large onion, chopped very finely

- 1/4 cup catsup (ketchup)

- 2 bacon slices, chopped

- 1 tablespoon chili powder

- 1 tablespoon mustard


Steps:

1. Preheat oven to 300°F.

2. Place chopped beef in a well-buttered large pan or earthenware pot with lid.

3. Add garlic, onion, bacon, chili powder, mustard, ketchup, liquid smoke, barbecue sauce, and Lawry’s seasoning; stir.

4. Bake covered 5–6 hours.

5. Stir occasionally, adding more barbecue sauce if needed to keep moist.

6. Serve hot on buns.
