Steps:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Grease a tube pan or 9×13 Pyrex pan.
3. Combine hot water, brown sugar, and shortening in a pot; bring to a boil, then cook for 5 minutes.
4. Cool the mixture completely until cold.
5. Add 3 cups flour and baking soda dissolved in 2 teaspoons hot water; mix well.
6. Pour batter into prepared pan.
7. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour.

- May frost with vanilla cream icing
